From School Library Journal
Grade 4-6–Buckley has created a world in which humans and fairy-tale creatures live side-by-side in rural New York in an uneasy alliance. Brought here by Wilhelm Grimm in an attempt to save them, the Everafters are now kept in check by the man's descendants. Enter Sabrina and Daphne Grimm, two sisters seemingly abandoned by their parents, who have been brought to live with a grandmother whom they thought was dead. Heartbroken and wary, the girls are immediately swept up in a mystery that includes giants, pixies, fairies, and witches. Readers well grounded in their fairy tales will get the most pleasure from recognizing the characters–Prince Charming, Jack-the-Giant-Killer, the Three Pigs, the Magic Mirror, and more–but the fast pace, sly humor, and cleverly inserted vocabulary lessons will entertain even those who are meeting the characters for the first time. Softly rounded, black-and-white illustrations and old-fashioned silhouettes at the chapter headings complete the first-rate design of this madcap adventure.–Sharon Grover, Arlington County Department of Libraries, VA

From Booklist
Gr. 4-6. After their parents disappear, sisters Daphne and Sabrina Grimm are placed with a grandmother they have never heard about. Sabrina, the eldest, is highly suspicious; why didn't their parents mention Granny Relda? She grows more concerned once they arrive at Relda's home in the New England town of Ferryport Landing, where Relda serves emerald-green meatballs in rooms lined with books about magic. Then Relda reveals the truth: the Grimms are descended from the famous storytelling brothers, and Ferryport Landing is a magical town, populated with "Everafters," characters straight from fairy tales. After Relda goes missing, it's up to the girls, and their new magical friends, to rescue her and stop a corrupt politician--a well-cast Prince Charming. Buckley's debut novel gets bogged down in labored world building and sometimes stilted prose, but the wild parade of magical folk in the gleefully fractured fairy tales (Snow White teaches school; the Three Little Pigs are policemen) may draw some fans. A second volume in the Sisters Grimm series, The Unusual Suspects, is also available. Gillian Engberg

Delightful Fantasy
By drebbles
After the mysterious disappearance of their parents, 11-year-old Sabrina Grimm and her 7-year-old sister, Daphne, are sent to a succession of foster homes. Their luck seems to change when they are sent to live with someone claiming to be their grandmother, but Sabrina is suspicious since her father had led her to believe her grandparents were all dead. She is further suspicious when her grandmother tells her that they are related to the Brothers Grimm of fairy tale fame. Not only that, but she tells them that fairy tales are not make believe, but history books and the characters are real and living right there in town. Naturally, Sabrina doesn't believe a word of it, until she sees with her own eyes that fairy tales can come true.
This was a truly delightful fantasy. Michael Buckley deftly weaves many fairy tales into the book from the Three Little Pigs to the Magic Mirror on the Wall to the Wizard of Oz. He's taken one of the standard fairy tale characters, Prince Charming, and turned him into a vain, yet very funny character. Buckley has a nice touch with words that will help adults enjoy this book as well as children. His touch is subtle, yet humorous, as when he describes parking valets as "hulking attendants with green skin and oversized muscles". Sabrina and Daphne are delightful, resourceful and brave. Buckley's take on the various fairy tale characters and their personalities is quite interesting and readers will never look at fairy tales such as Jack and the Beanstalk in quite the same way after reading this book.
Readers young and old will love this book.

Good Read
By Melissaox
I like to read at least some of the books I let my 7 year old read. She actually hasn't gotten to this book yet, but I have. I have discovered I generally like most of the books she can read, and this is no different.
The book was interesting and keep me reading. There was enough mystery and adventure to keep the pages turning. I thought it was funny when Snow White was a teacher, like the TV show that is completely not related.
Overall I thought its great for kids and adults alike. It makes me want to go back and re-read fairy tales to see what really happens.

Great book. I read to my boys at night and we all loved it great character building. Especially for a book based on fairy tales and fantasy, the characters were extremely believable, and relatable.
