The National Air and Space Museum, USA has taken great care to collect and preserve artefacts relating to the history of flight. These objects - culled from famous aviators and astronauts, planes and spacecraft, and popular culture sources such as television and motion pictures - are a testament to the impact that the science of flight has made upon mankind. The artefacts range in size from a message capsule for a carrier pigeon to the space shuttle, and in time from the first photograph of ballooning in America (1857) to a humanitarian food ration dropped over Afghanistan (2001). Each object is accompanied by a succinct description of its place in history, replete with anecdotes.

A very interesting book for the aviation fan.
By larryb
As a fan of anything aviation related, I was looking forward to receiving this book and overall am very pleased with it. The information provided is interesting and informative. The pictures are all in black and white and include things such as Aircraft Spotters Cards, Enola Gay Bombsight, Apollo 11 Stopwatch and more.
The only bad thing about this book is the type. It is typeset in a very small font and is silver/grey thus making it very difficult to read unless you have perfect vision and lots of light. How this made it to print like this, I cannot understand, but it is already done. That being said, I still think it is a very nice book for any aviation fan to have in their library.

Silver ink?
By Joe Bee
A most interesting book about ideas explored by our ingenious minds. Unfortunately, the publisher made the terrible mistake of printing the text in silver ink, thus making the book a real challenge to read in ANY light. That's why I just had to own this book.
