Lovely book, beautiful illustrations

The Kay Dixie illustrations are what make this book worth its price - they are detailed and beautifully colored. The "story" in the book uses the voice of a youth, child of the Constable, who lives in the castle and tells the story of its method of construction, and events which happen there. The pages contain many flaps to lift for more information, and some nice pop-up pages and slide tabs. There is a plethora of information about castles to be found here, and it makes a nice addition to a collection of engineered books.

Fascinating

Very cool book and a great way to present the information. I was impressed by the pop-up style... haven't seen that in any books since I was a child. The one-star review left by someone else is bogus: this book is NOT meant for toddlers or pre-schoolers. For a nine to 12 year old, the info is entirely age-appropriate.

Super pop-up castle book.

My 3 1/2-year-old grandson wants to 'do' this book over and over. My daughter edits the text down to his level, but there is so much more that he will be enthralled for years to come. This book is interactive: an antidote to ubiquitous electronics.
